Unique Cherry Blossom Viewing Spots

Things to Do | Visit Chiba | Latest update:2024/12/05

The beauty of sakura, cherry blossoms, is enhanced by the fleetingness of their blooms; usually just about 1-2 weeks in late-March to early-April here in Chiba. If your trip to Japan coincides with the sakura bloom, Chiba offers a variety of ways for you to enjoy hanami, cherry blossom viewing. This article introduces four unique sakura spots to help you get started on your cherry blossom adventure here!

Sakura-no-Yama Park

Usually cherry blossoms are best enjoyed against the backdrop of a bright-blue sky. Here at Sakura-no-Yama Park, that backdrop also includes close-up views of airplanes taking off from and landing at Narita International Airport. It’s a truly awe-inspiring sight, best enjoyed lounging under the trees with your favorite snacks and drinks. The “Sora-no-Eki Sakura-kan” shopping center in the park sells souvenirs and local products so you can grab a keepsake from your trip here.

Mobara Park

If you’re looking to explore beyond urban Tokyo and Chiba on your cherry blossom hunt, head to Mobara Park, as its 2,850 cherry blossom trees earned it an appearance on the list of the top-100 cherry blossom spots in Japan. Adding to the atmosphere here is the “Benten Bridge” that crosses the pond in the middle of the park, creating a contrast of red surrounded by pink and white cherry blossoms. You’ll also find ample space to play, picnic, and stroll here too.

Kominato Railway

The Kominato Railway is like a trip through a countryside dream. This local, diesel-powered line connects Ichihara City and Otaki Town, but the main appeal isn’t transportation, rather the views you’re treated to along the way. In spring, the nanohana yellow flowers and vibrant cherry blossoms adorn the sides of the tracks, ensuring you’ll be facing out the window the entire ride. Along the way, Itabu Station is a popular place to stop, as it has one of the most photographed collections of cherry trees on this line. Start at JR Goi Station for the Kominato Line’s first stop, and take a slow journey through Chiba’s picturesque spring.

Lake Kameyama

Lake Kameyama is the most “off-the-beaten-path” destination on our list, but with its views of seasonal colors, and excellent food and hot springs at the nearby inns, it makes for an authentic slice of the Boso Hills in central Chiba. A picturesque red torii gate can be seen “floating” in the lake just offshore from a small park. Come spring, the cherry trees found in the park bloom, perfectly framing the torii for a unique “only in Japan” photo opportunity.
