Chiba Prefecture hosted eight sporting events in the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.
Chiba City’s Makuhari Messe hosted seven events: fencing, taekwondo, wrestling, goalball, sitting volleyball, Para-Taekwondo, and wheelchair fencing. Makuhari Messe is a convention complex that opened in 1989, and consists of the International Exhibition Hall, International Conference Hall, and Makuhari Event Hall. It plays host to many of Japan’s largest music and cultural events.
The first ever surfing competition in Olympic history took place at Tsurigasaki Beach, in the town of Ichinomiya. Ichinomiya is located along the Pacific Ocean at the southernmost point of Chiba’s Kujukuri coast. This coast produces powerful waves, and has been the site of several domestic and international surfing competitions.
