Chiba Prefecture will host eight sporting events in the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020. Chiba will hold more events than any other place outside of Tokyo proper.

Chiba City’s Makuhari Messe will host seven events: fencing, taekwondo, wrestling, goalball, sitting volleyball, Para-Taekwondo, and wheelchair fencing. Makuhari Messe is a convention complex that opened in 1989, and consists of the International Exhibition Hall, International Conference Hall, and Makuhari Event Hall. It plays host to many of Japan’s largest music and cultural events.

The first ever surfing competition in Olympic history will take place at Tsurigasaki Beach, in the town of Ichinomiya. Ichinomiya is located along the Pacific Ocean at the southernmost point of Chiba’s Kujukuri coast. This coast produces powerful waves, and has been the site of several domestic and international surfing competitions.
